Agent Profile – Meet Lovettsville Realtor, Sherry Santmyer

Lovettsville Realtor, Sherry Santmyer

Lovettsville Realtor, Sherry Santmyer is a fourth generation native of Loudoun County. She’s a mom, a successful entrepreneur, a social media influencer and so much more (athlete, artist, mentor, etc.).

Sherry was still a student at Loudoun County High School when she first got licensed as a Realtor in 1988. But instead of jumping into a career in real estate right out of high school, Sherry went off to pursue a college degree at James Madison University. She made a life for herself as a wife, mother and partner in a successful local landscaping business.

Sherry returned to real estate in 2015, completely reinventing herself and quickly becoming one of the top producing agents in Northern Virginia. In just the past 5 years, Sherry has closed nearly $40 million in real estate transactions. She’s built quite a reputation as a Realtor and her practice has continued to grow year after year.

For those of us who have watched Sherry build her practice, it’s easy to see why she’s been successful. Sherry is a very hard worker. She is driven to self-educate and learn new things. But most importantly, Sherry genuinely loves serving her clients and helping people get where they need to be. Despite representing the #1 global luxury brand in real estate, Sherry says of herself, “I will always consider myself a small town girl.” People just love her. They put their trust in Sherry and they are consistently rewarded with excellent results.

As 2024 winds down, we asked Sherry to reflect on her career and how she managed to keep her practice growing this year, despite some big life changes.

Question: Why did you come back to real-estate?

“Back in 2015 I was going through a divorce. I lost my job because I worked with my ex-husband. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. I went back to college and obtained a degree in Entrepreneurship & Business from James Madison University. At the same time – I bought and sold several houses and seemed to be buying lots of furniture and decorating a lot of houses. My sister-in-law said to me, ‘You should be a Realtor. You seem to love houses’.  That one comment re-started my career in real estate.”

Question: What’s the craziest thing that has happened to you as a Realtor?

“I was selling real estate out in Durango, Colorado. It was raining. I asked my clients to take their shoes off. The family took their shoes off and were walking around the home. The wife and I went downstairs to talk over the price. We heard a scream from upstairs. The husband had stepped on something. We weren’t sure what it was but it wasn’t coming out. He was rushed to the emergency room. He had stepped on a fishing hook. The fishing hook was one that expanded when it caught something, in this case, his foot. He was operated on and the hook was removed. I learned to wear booties from then on. The seller ended up having to pay for the surgery.”

Question: Your dog Lola appears to be your constant companion. How did she come into your life?

Winchester Realtor Sherry Santmyer and her constant companion, Lola.

“I was on a cruise 10 years ago and I got a call from an employee of our company. He said, ‘I found two white and tan shih tzus, just like you wanted. Do you want them both?” At that time, I had a Labrador named Sport. He had a lot of energy & I couldn’t imagine having 3 dogs. That day, I picked Lola from a picture. She was delivered to me at 5 weeks old. I believe she came from a puppy mill. She came into our home and fit right in. She snuggled with the 100 pound Labrador. They loved one another. She would do zoomies around the family room and slide under the couch and the lab would chase her but he couldn’t fit underneath the couch. I call Lola my lifeline. When life got hard, she carried me through. It’s amazing what unconditional love can do for a person. Lola is beautiful and her disposition and temperament was just what I needed. When life got hard, Lola showed up and pulled me through. She’s the best.

Question: You got married this year. How has that changed your life?

Congrats to Mr. Keith Furr and bride Sherry Santmyer on their marriage in September of 2024.

I married Keith on September 7, 2024. Our life has not changed one bit. I met a man who is a solid family man and if you’re his friend, he has your back. Everything is the same as before we got married. We have a lot in common. We used to run together and now walk together. We love to ride bikes. The best part is knowing he is beside me. Not in front and not behind me. Not much more I can say.

Serving Buyers & Sellers in Loudoun, Frederick & Jefferson Counties

Charles Town Realtor, Sherry Santmyer

One of the things that’s unique about Sherry’s practice is her geographic range. In restarting her real estate career later in life, Sherry took business wherever she could find it, even if that meant long hours in the car.

She was one of the first local agents to get licensed both in Virginia and West Virginia. While many folks were getting priced out of the market in Northern Virginia, Sherry was able to serve those looking west for more affordable options — and less suburban sprawl. As clients continued to refer her to friends and family, she built up three centers of her practice. Sherry works all over Loudoun County, from Leesburg to her home in Lovettsville. However, she also has a major presence in Winchester, Virginia and Charles Town, West Virginia.

Everyone Deserves “The Sotheby’s Experience”

Sherry is proud of her association with Sotheby’s International Realty and has cultivated an expertise in luxury real estate. That being said, Sherry is the first person to tell you that “Luxury isn’t a price point, it’s an experience.” She goes where her clients need her and aspires to provide “a luxury experience to everyone, every time”. The average sales price of homes listed by Sherry is approaching $1 million. But the average purchase price paid by buyers Sherry has represented is just around $500K. You don’t have to be wealthy to work with Sherry, you just need to appreciate world-class service.
